Many things happen when we least expect them; one such thing is having your refrigerator break down. Unfortunately, it isn’t in your control to decide when your built-in refrigerator can go faulty but repairing it is.
Usually, when your Viking built-in refrigerator isn’t cooling as before, it could be that the cool air produced by the refrigerator is dissipating faster than average, or the refrigerator isn’t producing enough cool air. In such scenarios, the first step is to check out the temperature controls of your built-in refrigerator.
The factory set the temperature at 38 °F, but according to the FDA, you can keep it at 40 °F. However, if the temperature control doesn’t seem to be the problem, below are some other probable causes of your built-in refrigerator not cooling and how to fix it.
A temperature control thermostat is responsible for helping the compressor, evaporator, and condenser fans run smoothly. Thus, your refrigerator will not run properly or cool once defective. To determine if your thermostat is faulty, rotate the dial from low to high and listen for a click.
If you hear none, this means your temperature control thermostat is faulty. Still, you could test the continuity of the thermostat at all settings with a multimeter to confirm. If faulty, you need to change the temperature control thermostat.
The built-in refrigerator thermistor monitors the temperature of the refrigerator by regulating the function of the compressor and evaporator fan. Thus, if it fails, your compressor and evaporator fan won’t function to the maximum, and this can cause your Viking refrigerator to not cool.
Sometimes, this issue might be accompanied by a beep, but you can deactivate the beep with the ‘Alarm off’ button. To resolve this, you need to change the thermistor, and you can do this by testing it with a multimeter for continuity to confirm the problem’s source before you replace it.
Condenser coils are the part of the refrigerator responsible for dissipating heat from the refrigerator as the refrigerant passes through them. Thus, when the condenser coils no longer dissipate heat properly, your refrigerator won’t retain any coolness. Fortunately, this is often caused by your condenser coils getting dirty and could easily be cleaned to solve.
First, check the coils, which are usually located at the bottom of the refrigerator, but you could also check out your manual owner to confirm their location and see if they are dirty. Afterwards, disconnect your Viking refrigerator from the power source and clean the coils carefully.
An evaporator fan distributes cold air throughout the refrigerator and over the evaporator coils. So, if your evaporator fan is faulty, it could cause a non-cooling freezer. To correct this problem, check if the evaporator motor is good.
Disconnect your Viking refrigerator from the power source and manually spin the fan blades. If the blades spin well, then the evaporator fan is ok. In contrast, the motor needs to be replaced if there’s resistance or noise.
